Optional Stops Depending on Length of Tour:
Please note: Traffic, weather, and local road conditions may affect which stops are available. It can be difficult to predict the length of time your specific custom tour will take. If your tour ends up being longer or shorter than the option you selected we can change the price accordingly.
A) Quick stop at highway pull-off after Princeville to see Hanalei Bay/take pictures. Park at Keʻe Beach and see the famous Nā Pali Coast/start of the Kalalau Trail (at the very end of the road on the North Shore, when the landscape gets too steep for the road to continue!) Will take about 45 minutes, depending if we can find parking near the end of the road (easier early in the morning when less crowded). We we walk NE from the beach swimming area to where the beach actually affords views of the Nā Pali Coast (youʻll notice very few people are doing this/aware of this possibility)
B) Short walk through ancient gardens at Limahuli (one of the few National Tropical Botanical Gardens in the world, many rare native plants) - we would walk an easy .75 mile loop through native plants with labels & explanations (will take about 1 hour).
C) Visit Lumahai Beach (aka Kahalahala Beach on eastern edge of Lumahai Beach, commonly called "Tourist Lumahai" for its popularity with visitors and/or "Nurses Beach" because of its prominence in the filming of the famous "I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair" scene in the famous 1960ʻs movie South Pacific)
D) Quick Stop at overlook of taro fields for pictures (off highway on the right just as youʻre getting into Princeville). Visit Kilauea Light House (see migratory sea birds) and/or Stone Dam (beautiful landscaping, part of sugar industry history, only .5 mile walk on flat terrain is we start from Common Ground Farm). Here's a KHT IG picture of that place.
E) Lunch at Kilauea Fish Market or Kilauea Bakery & Pau Hana Pizza in historic Kong Lung Center
F) Opaekaʻa Falls & Wailua River Overlook (short walk across the street - from this overlook you can get a good look at where Raiders of the Lost Ark was filmed, along with other big-name movies like "Jurassic Park" and "Outbreak." If you look to the right you can also get a good look at Kamokila Hawaiian Village.
G) Keahua Arboretum and beautiful rainbow eucalyptus trees - maybe even a view of the summit of mt. Waiʻaleʻale if the weather is clear!
H) Kuilau Ridge Trail
I) Nounou Mountain aka "Sleeping Giant"
J) Hindu Monastery Ganesha Statue and rudraksha tree forest pic #1 & #2
K) Wailua Falls - Wailua Falls is most recognized in the opening credits of the long-running television show "Fantasy Island."
If you want to incorporate our North Shore Coastal Wildlife Hike we can meet at the airport, your hotel, or we can meet at the Sunrise Fruit Stand in Moloaʻa (North Shore, just past Anahola). Tour lengths are from pick up to drop off. This option will add 3 - 5 hours to your tour length, depending on where we meet.
